Description

1. What Toseine is and what it is used for

Toseine contains codeine phosphate hemihydrate.

This medicine is used in the symptomatic treatment of dry cough (not accompanied by mucus) in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.

 

2. What you need to know before you take Toseina

Do not take Toseina:

  • If you are allergic to codeine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
  • If you have respiratory problems such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), respiratory depression (slow or insufficient force breathing) or acute asthma attacks.
  • If you have paralytic ileus (intestinal obstruction) or are at risk of it,
  • If you have diarrhea associated with pseudomembranous colitis (inflammation of the colon) caused by antibiotic medicines (such as cephalosporins, lincomycins, or penicillin) or diarrhea caused by poisoning.
  • If you’re under 12 years of age.
  • If you know you metabolize codeine to morphine very quickly.
  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

    3. How to take Tosine

    Always take this medicine exactly as yours as instructed by your doctor or pharmacist. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist again.

    Doses should be individualized for each patient. The lower effective dose should be used to control symptoms. The dose may be distributed in up to 4 daily doses given at intervals not less than 6 hours.

    The administration of the medicine is contingent on the onset of symptoms, reducing dosing as the symptomatology disappears.

    The duration of treatment should be limited to 3 days.

    Adults and adolescents over 12 years:

    Paediatric population: Toseina is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age.

    To open the bottle, remove the dosing vasito, press the stopper down and turn in the direction indicated by the arrows, as indicated in the drawing that appears at the top of the lid. The bottle shall be closed after each use.

    4. Possible side effects

    Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

     

    Be aware that many of the effects can be symptoms of your illness and will therefore improve when you start to feel better.

     

    Although the frequency of side effects is not known, as it cannot be estimated from the available data, these are constipation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and drowsiness.

    Convulsions, mental confusion, mood disturbance (joy or sadness) and itching have also been described. Skin rashes may occur in allergic patients.

    At high and long-term doses it can cause respiratory depression (slow or insufficient force breathing).
